Roadfishcom Offers Helpful Barbecue Tips

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 18, 2012

RoadFish.com men?s lifestyle and finance magazine today shared tips for having a successful Memorial Day barbecue, from where to buy meat to which sides are best for grilling. RoadFish.com also gives a nod to an article by Consumer Reports, which gives advice on purchasing a budget-friendly grill that still cranks out quality food if you happen to be in need of a good gas grill for the upcoming holiday weekend and summer grilling season.

RoadFish.com shared advice from a Komo News article by Consumer Reports about which grills can turn out delicious food without breaking the bank. The testers at Consumer Reports tested close to one hundred grills, which cost anywhere from $ 100 to $ 2,500 apiece, to see where you can get the most bang for your buck without sacrificing any flavor or amenities. Testers performed several different experiments to see how each grill stood up, some of which included cooking food to check the quality of heat distribution. Dan DiClerico of Consumer Reports is quoted saying, ?To see how evenly a grill cooks at lower temperatures, testers grill salmon steaks as well as chicken breasts. Now both those foods can easily dry out if the grill gets too hot.? Testers also grilled steaks, to see which of the grills has issues with flare-ups. Other tests were done sans food, but rather with a Thermocouple, which measures the evenness of the heat being distributed along the surface of the grill.

Consumer Reports found that some of the highest-priced grills ranked top in the performance department, but still found several quality grills that stood up to a challenge that are fairly easy on the wallet. DiClerico recommends the Char-Broil Classic, which can be purchased at Home Depot for $ 200. DiClerico states, ?It rated excellent for low-temperature cooking, and grilled up a very good steak, too.? Another top-ranked, low-cost grill was the Brinkman Grill model 810-2545 which Walmart carries. Consumer Reports that it?s a bit pricier than the Char-Broil Classic, but a great buy nonetheless.

RoadFish.com?s Senior staff writer is quoted as saying, ?I absolutely love cooking food outside, on the grill. There?s something very nostalgic about it, especially if you?re having a party centered around barbecuing. Barbecues take me far back with childhood memories. I am not hosting the Memorial Day barbecue this year, but you?re likely to still find me around the grill, helping the host do up burgers, dogs, steaks, and whatever else is on the menu.?

RoadFish.com started off its tips for a successful barbecue by stating that one smart idea is to make any bash a potluck. In this way, it takes pressure (both time and money) off of the host so they can focus on the main dish. It also gets everyone involved, and can be a lot of fun for those that are participating to share a special recipe and see others enjoying their food. RoadFish.com?s Senior staff writer is quoted as saying, ?I absolutely love going to potlucks or hosting them. How else do I get to have Aunt Mary?s famous potato salad, Grandma?s pepperoni cheese bread, and Uncle Sal?s antipasto platter all in one place? Plus it?s a blast making food for everyone to enjoy. It gets the whole family involved, and brings everyone together in a whole other way.?

RoadFish.com also recommends getting your meat in bulk, from someplace like Costco of another wholesale store. Whatever you don?t use, you can always freeze for later, and you?re likely to get more for your money than at a regular grocery store. One of Costco?s amazing deals that RoadFish.com highlighted is their 6-pack of 7 oz Applewood Bacon-wrapped Beef Filets, for only $ 15.60. If you?re sticking with good ole fashioned burgers, Costco sells everything from frozen Angus beef patties to basic quarter pounders from $ 15-$ 26 for three pounds up to ten pounds of meat. Not to mention a 24-pack of hamburger buns for under $ 4.

And lastly, RoadFish.com recommends using sides (if you are preparing both the entre and sides dishes) that you can grill as well. This eliminates the need for extra food prep in advance, and the chef can put everything on the grill together and get bac to the bocce ball or volleyball game faster. RoadFish.com loves grilling asparagus and corn on the cob as two delicious and easy options. The men?s lifestyle and finance magazine urges grill masters to remember to soak ears of corn in water for at least 15 minutes before putting them on the grill, if you are opting to grill the corn husk-on. For simple but impressive (and scrumptious) dessert, one of RoadFish?s favorite ideas is cutting an apricot in half, coating it in sugar and cinnamon, grilling it for a few minutes and then topping it off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Memorial Day is a federal holiday that originated to commemorate the fallen Union soldiers of the Civil War, but has since been extended as a holiday to honor all American servicemen and servicewomen who have passed away serving the United States. Memorial Day is celebrated annually on the last Monday in May and is the unofficial mark of the start of summer. As a fun fact, Memorial Day used to be known as ?Decoration Day.?

Born in Shreveport, LA, mostly raised in Baytown, TX, now claiming Seattle, WA as home, Buddy has been a busker in Amsterdam, a lumberjack in Norway, a street vendor in Spain, a team leader in Singapore, a re-delivery boy, a candy maker, a street sweeper, a bartender, a maid, a construction worker, a bull rider, a triathlete and a sucker for anything unfolding. And for peanut butter. And hygiene. Wakefield is a writer, the elated son of a guitar repair woman, wingman of Giant Saint Everything, and remembers Kirkwood, NY. Sanborn too.

MORE ACCURATE BIO:
In the Fall of 1984 Anchor Bay Entertainment released a movie called Children of the Corn while Buddy lived in front of the corn fields near Niagara Falls, NY. A well-kept garden is a joy to behold. Adding to the curb appeal of your home, carefully chosen garden accessories can match or contrast with the style and color of your house. Whether you are a weekend flowerbed gardener, or whether your garden is planned to feed your family through the winter, lovely and fanciful accessories will add to the enjoyment of the outdoor living space.

Surround your garden with fencing

Fencing for your garden is needed to keep wildlife from eating the nasturtiums but it also provides a quiet oasis to enjoy the beauty of your planned garden. Fencing can be six foot high cedar that blocks traffic noise, or it can be white wicker that is only tall enough to delineate the perimeter of your garden.

Don’t leave your garden in the dark

Think about accent lighting highlighting your prize plantings. Patio lights can be judiciously used to make your gazebo comfortable for a late evening get together with friends. Insect zapper lights get mixed reviews, since they can be noisy as the insects are incinerated. They also tend to have a harsh brightness that is annoying to some. On the positive side, outlining pathways with small lights prevents stumbles in the twilight.

Garden furniture

Spending a lot of time just relaxing and enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of a flower garden can be done from a gazebo with sturdy and comfortable garden furniture. Tables, chairs, lounges and foot stools are obvious choices for furniture in the garden area. A grill or barbecue unit located nearby means guests can enjoy the space while grilling fresh produce from the garden. Corn on the cob from the vegetable garden can’t get any fresher.

Plan garden beds

Many gardens would be beautifully accessorized by adding carefully chosen raised garden beds. Look at the style of your house and design the garden plots for pansies or potatoes in garden beds that enhance the look of the house. For example, if your house is split level suburban, why not add a couple split level beds. The construction materials for the garden beds can be anything from concrete to Plexiglas.

Garden in three dimensions

Well-planned flower vegetable or even herb gardens don’t have to stay at ground level. If your square footage is limited, cube it by the use of attractive and functional trellises or rails to bring plantings into the air. Surround a tree with vinyl coated wire and bring climbing roses into view. Create a secluded outdoor room by trellises covered with decorative flowers, vines or even vegetables. Scarlet runner beans are pretty to look at and nutritious to eat.

Make pathways interesting

A planned garden that has permanent beds can also have interesting and decorative pathways. Think about using aquarium colored pebbles with a seashell motif for edging. Try pathways that meander according to your planned beds rather than sticking to straight lines. Maybe you would like to have a yellow brick road as a pathway in your garden.

Choose colorful or whimsical containers

If a large garden is too much to manage in your free time, or if you are working in limited space, think about establishing your garden in unusual containers. Or, such containers can be simply an interesting accessory to the real garden. Colorful ceramic pots in large sizes and shapes can be placed randomly amongst the flower beds to hold herbs or a salad or two. An old claw footed bathtub or a little red wagon both make great containers for garden plants.

Add Color

You can add color by the plants that you choose or by the containers you pick for spots of color. Look for ways to make color spots show up even better by putting them against contrasting background of other plants, walls or trellises. Delight the wee folk

Adding whimsical statuary or ornaments to your garden plots can be fun and useful as well. Garden gnomes, leprechauns and perhaps even a fairy or too can be an adventure to undertake with your child or grandchild. A ceramic frog by a garden pond is a common sight around gardens, but have you ever seen a dragonfly or a small fire breathing dragon. Choose a copper weather vane or a bird house decorated like a fairy tale castle.

Five senses

A well planned garden with carefully chosen accessories will be a delight to all five senses. You see the beautiful colors in the plants, flowers and accessories. You feel the texture of the earth as well as the crisp vegetables that are picked for culinary enjoyment. You can smell the perfume of the flowers and trees. Tasting fresh produce from the garden is a bonanza for your taste buds. Finally, your sense of hearing is able to pick up the sound of the wind in a set of wind chimes. Wind chimes are decorative and can sound melodic or mournful, tinkling or hearty.

Plan your garden accessories to appeal to each and every human sense and your garden will be a place where your spirit is uplifted.

Fat Land: How Americans Became the Fattest People in the World

In this astonishing expose, journalist Greg Critser looks beyond the sensational headlines to reveal why nearly 60 percent of Americans are now overweight. Critser’s sharp-eyed reportage and sharp-tongued analysis make for a disarmingly funny and truly alarming book. Critser investigates the many factors of American life — from supersize to Super Mario, from high-fructose corn syrup to the high cost of physical education in schools — that have converged and conspired to make us some of the fattest people on the planet. He also explains why pediatricians are treating conditions rarely before noticed in children, why Type 2 diabetes is on the rise, and how agribusiness has unwittingly altered the American diet.

Omahabased Manufacturer Supplies National Parks

(PRWEB) March 22, 2012

While some Nebraskans may be aware that bio-based household cleaning products are on the market, few probably know that a Nebraska company is a leading manufacturer of these environmentally friendly products.

In fact, Don Eby?s The Clean Environment Company, of Omaha, was one of the first to pioneer the development and production of these ?green? products in the early 1990s, primarily based on soy derivatives. Since then, they have become one of the leading suppliers of bio-based cleaning products to over 50 national and state parks, including Yellowstone and Yosemite, as well as many state parks and resorts across the country.

Cleaning products traditionally have been manufactured with the use of chemicals and petroleum derivatives, which raise concerns about their undesirable side effects. The use of chemicals in traditional cleaning products can be potentially harmful, especially in areas where food is prepared. The use of petroleum derivatives in traditional products also increases our ever-growing dependency on foreign oil. However, the incorporation of bio-based products offers proven, immediate solutions to both issues.

The USDA defines bio-based products as being composed in whole or in significant part of biological ingredients, including renewable domestic agricultural materials.

By the early 1990s, a need for cleaning products that were healthier for the environment was emerging. Eby recognized this opportunity and jumped on it.

Eby founded his company in Lincoln in 1992 after he sold his interests in another Lincoln business. ?I wanted to start a business of my own and was looking around for a good opportunity. A friend of mine told me about Greg Weiner, a chemist in Missouri who was doing exciting work in the development of healthier, more user-friendly cleaning products. I liked what he was doing, so I invited him to join my business venture.? Eby moved the company to Omaha in 2004.

?We were one of the first companies in the nation to get into the bio-based cleaning products field. Things really took off for us in 1995, when the City of Santa Monica, California, mandated the use of ?green? products in their municipal facilities. After testing the products of several companies, ours proved the best available and they contracted with us.?

Soon after Santa Monica?s move to bio-based cleaners, Yellowstone National Park became the first federal agency to test and implement green products.

In the early 1990s, Yellowstone had launched an initiative called the ?Greening of Yellowstone,? to address the park?s commitment to preserve and protect Yellowstone for future generations.

?Our first step was to inventory and categorize all cleaning and janitorial products used to maintain park facilities,? says Jim Evanoff, Yellowstone?s environmental protection specialist. ?We were alarmed at the toxicity levels of the cleaning products we were using, so we developed strict, new criteria for all future product purchases that would help us meet our green procurement goals.?

Yellowstone began implementing bio-based products at that time, including those from The Clean Environment Company. ?As the world?s first National Park and the flagship of the National Park Service, Yellowstone always strives to do the right thing for the environment and help set standards for the other parks,? Evanoff says. ?As a result, over 40 other national parks now use bio-based cleaning products.?

In addition to the national and state parks across the country, Eby?s company supplies products to the City of Seattle, the City of San Francisco, the State of Colorado and many other city and state agencies around the country. They also supply products to such federal government agencies as the U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard and the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration.

Currently, about 20 percent of the company?s business is with national parks, which use his products for cleaning offices, visitor centers and restrooms. In Yellowstone, for example, some areas are disinfected up to four times a day.

?We also provide these products to hotels, lodges, concession stands and other facilities in the parks,? Eby says, ?and we are getting into relationships with some national hotel chains to provide them with our products, as well.?

These cleaning products have played a big role in helping Yellowstone achieve success in its environmental programs by moving away from corrosives, aerosols and petroleum- based products.

?We?ve achieved zero toxicity in the cleaning products we use,? Evanoff says, ?and I?ve seen heightened morale among our janitorial staff, because they can be confident the products they use are safe. And we?re also sending the message to the over three million annual visitors that environmentally friendly products should be used wherever possible.?

Eby says his company?s cleaner formulas replace harsh chemicals and petroleum derivatives with components made from sustainable resources, such as soybeans and others, including cotton, corn, coconuts and oranges. About half of The Clean Environment Company?s products contain soy derivatives.

Currently, The Clean Environment Company makes cleaning products under ?The Natural? brand in many different categories, including: all-purpose cleaners; laundry detergents; natural solvent cleaners; hand and dish washing detergents; basic tub and tile cleaners; heavy-duty degreasers for industrial use; shampoos (both human and pet); wood conditioners; oven cleaners; super-citrus all-purpose cleaners; car washes; and carpet extraction cleaners.

The company has worked hard to be an environmental steward. ?We practice good environmental standards in our manufacturing process, including the use of recyclable materials in all of our containers,? Eby says.

There?s a lot of room for growth in this business, Eby says. ?Use of ?green? products tends to be most concentrated on the East and West coasts, where dense populations make the use of hazardous materials all the more prominent.?

In addition to cleaning products made by The Clean Environment Company, soy derivatives are being used increasingly in diverse areas such as auto care, building products, candles, fuels and paint strippers, furniture, and many more.

Not only is the use of bio-based materials in products as common as household cleaners environmentally friendly, but it also diminishes U.S. dependence on foreign oil. According to the Nebraska Soybean Board (NSB), if every household in the U.S. replaced a single box of 48 oz. powered laundry detergent with a bioproduct alternative, Americans would save 96,000 barrels of oil per year ? enough to heat and cool well over 5,000 homes.

?These soy-based products can replace petroleum-based materials with environmentally-friendly products and resources,? says NSB Executive Director, Victor Bohuslavsky. ?It?s better for the environment and better for Nebraska because Nebraska- grown soybeans can be used to produce these alternative products. In turn, this strengthens Nebraska?s farm economy.?

Soybeans are important to Nebraska. Nebraska farmers harvested over five million acres of soybeans in 2010?a $ 3 billion market. While most soybeans are used for livestock feed, the market continues to grow for soy-based bioproducts, like The Clean Environment Company?s cleaning products.

That?s good news for the Nebraska economy and our environment.

Exciting Big 10 football doesn’t get any better than when you . Now I get to catch each game since I found this exceptionally innovative software. It gets me access to all televised Cornhuskers games so I no longer have to pay those exorbitant “sports package” fees charged by either cable or satellite television companies.

Head coach Bo Pelini now in his third year has definitely made the program his own as Nebraska is once again a tough, hard-hitting physical team that carries the ball right at you. Senior quarterback Zach Lee is the returning signal caller airing it out in 2009 for more than 2100 yards completing 14 touchdowns. Senior running back Roy Helu returns to action having amassed 1,193 yards scoring 10 touchdowns on a a 5.2 yards per carry average in 2009. He earned second team Big 12 honors. Then there is senior wide out Niles Paul who averaged 20 yards per catch in 2009. Look for this trio of weapons to be quite productive in 2010 for the Cornhuskers.

You will benefit just like I do when you easily download this software from the Internet. You will find you can just as easily install and operate the software on your computer. Everybody can use it since there’s a version for both the Mac and PC. Next, get yourself ready for some great live streaming video coming over the Internet onto your computer when you get a high-speed connection through either DSL or cable.
